From You Flowers. LLC
Love is the greatest gift given to us
as we walk the winding paths of life.
We are taught to share it. It is a gift to be given often and willingly to our
fellow man. Or, in my case, our fellow canines.
I’ll be the first to admit I’m not that fond of dogs.
Yet during Christmas of this last year, I saw the
unyielding love and devotion a canine
companion can bring into the hearts of everyone
around them.
My great-grandmother asked me to sing Silent Night before we opened
the gifts that December evening. Banner, my aunt and uncle’s one year-
old Golden Retriever, sat nearby almost…captivated by the words and
music he couldn’t understand.   His head rested upon my grandpa’s lap
as his gaze remained transfixed on me during my short performance.
His brown eyes sparkled as my voice sang that familiar hymn. I had
never had such a dedicated fan or seen such admiration in someone‘s
eyes. During the remainder of the evening, he clung to me as if I hung
the moon. At one point, he wanted to dance.
It is this example of love
we should follow.
A love that asks for
nothing in return except
for the occasional slip
of bacon or walk
around the block.
